This page contains pictures of some of my instruments.
I am not an instrument collector -
I play them all in different contexts: classical music or jazz (no pop).
Five soprano clarinets
These are all clarinets with French (Boehm) system. From left to right:
two A clarinets Alexandre Robert (Paris), probably from ca. 1920
B flat clarinet Alexandre Robert (Paris) (has "articulated G sharp"), probably from 1920
Bb clarinet Selmer 10S "Marchi" (full Boehm), bought around 1980
B flat clarinet R.Malerne (Paris)
A very special clarinet: Selmer 10S "Marchi"
The Selmer Bb clarinet system "Marchi" built around 1975 is
an extended Boehm system
with a second register key - you can see that on the barrel.
It descends down to Eb - normal clarinets have E as the lowest
written note. Note the "articulated G sharp" on this clarinet.
In contrast
to opinions found on the internet I am very satisfied with this
rare and rather complicated clarinet. I use a Meyer 6 medium chamber
mouthpiece for Jazz and - among other Vandoren mouthpieces -
a Selmer "F" mouthpiece for classic music.
The following picture shows the second register key on the rear:
My C clarinet
This is the only German system (Oehler) clarinet I own: a clarinet in C made by A.E. Fischer
in Bremen Germany. I don't exactly know how hold it is.
I guess is was build around 1940.
My saxophones
These two pictures shows three saxophones: from left to right:
Dolnet Eb Alto sax. (probably begin of 1950)
Soprano sax. Yamaha Custom
Selmer Tenor sax. model Super Action III
My bassoon
This bassoon is a Schreiber (a German company) bassoon Model S15:
My oboes
This image shows three oboes: from left to right:
Howarth model S45C (my standard oboe, semiautomatic)
Malerne oboe (from ca. 1975, automatic system): my replacement oboe
Oboe Alexandre Robert probably from around 1920: plays surprisingly well
My double bass
This bass is a bohemian flat back model, probably 120 years old.
The dark varnish colour is (more or less) original.
I play this bass in classical contexts as well as in Jazz contexts.
When playing Jazz I use he classical Underwood pickup in
combination with a veteran Polytone bass amplifier.
